History of Granada
Granada Aluminum Factory was established in Riyadh city the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the year 1393 H / 1971 G, by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Abdul Latif Al-Brahim - may God have mercy on him. The idea of launching Granada came as an outcome of a search for an industrial project that meets the needs of the market in the KSA. At that time, the results of surveying the market revealed an urging demand for architectural aluminum systems. That demand was corresponded by a very limited number of aluminum factories, which were unable to meet the needs of clients for architectural aluminum systems and associated services, with high specifications and quality. Granada Aluminum Factory was established in the city of Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the year 1393 H / 1971 G, by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Abdul Latif Al-Brahim - may God have mercy on him.
The establishment of Granada was accompanied by the emergence of a range of industries in the sector of aluminum products in the Arabian Gulf countries. The year 1971 G witnessed the construction of the first smelter in Bahrain (Alba), followed by the (Dubal) smelter in Dubai in the year 1979. The importance and role of this industry resulted in diversifying the sources of income and investments in this sector; this in turn led to the establishment of the Arab Mining Company (Maaden) in Saudi Arabia in the year 2013 to be a member of the industrial sector.
Granada started its first production process of architectural aluminum systems through a factory located within a building with an area not exceeding 2000 m² at the old industrial zone, and with no more than 10 administrative and technical staff. At that time, Granada started looking for foreign markets to import architectural aluminum parts; Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation was the first external supplier to contract with to supply the first architectural aluminum systems with specifications explicit to Granada. The Granada aluminum plant attained precedence in introducing aluminum anode colors in KSA markets. In 1974, Granada imported these colors from South Korea. Then it started to deal with some other sources to supply various aluminum segments from the Arabian Gulf countries and other international suppliers.
In 1974, the factory transferred to the first industrial zone, and several projects were accomplished, the first of which was the project of aluminum windows for a government school to be the starting point for launching a promising industry.
In the same year, the first aluminum kitchen with high specifications was introduced, to open for Granada broad prospects to develop and satisfy the needs of the Saudi market.
Granada adopted the strategy of production diversity and the introduction of various products, including aluminum kitchens. At that time, Granada imported aluminum and Formica doors from Italy.
The Saudi market did not accept these doors due to the demand for wooden doors. This situation led Granada to think about manufacturing aluminum shelves to be the starting point for the industry of aluminum kitchens in KSA. These kitchens became very popular in the Saudi market, constituting a launch stage for Granada.
Due to the increased market demand and the desire to increase the production capacity of the plant, Granada moved to the second industrial zone in the year 1993. In this stage, wooden colors, known as decorative colors, were introduced for the first time in the Saudi market. Through this production, Granada delivered to its clients an extra advantage in the industry of aluminum by manufacturing kitchens with different natural wooden colors and various aluminum features such as moisture resistance, product durability, and limited maintenance requirements simultaneously at a competitive price.
As a result of the increasing demand for architectural aluminum products associated with the growth in construction in the years after, a decision was taken about the necessity of expanding the factory’s productions on one hand and raising production capacity on the other. Accordingly, Granada aluminum factory was transferred to Al-Manakh district in Riyadh with a total area of 8.400m², and around 300 skilled technical labor/staff and competent administrators.
In 2008, Granada became a subsidiary of Al-Andalus Holding Group. Through this, Granada has acquired further dimension through the integration into the productive and administrative activities of the Holding Group. This also actualized a competitive advantage for the company as it provides production means of aluminum and glass accessories with explicit specifications. Furthermore, this integration enabled Granada to exceed the expectations of its clients and at the highest standards to enhance customer satisfaction.
Nowadays, Granada Aluminum is recognized as one of the largest national manufacturers of architectural aluminum systems. It serves all the products and services to its clients in all the regions of the KSA and elsewhere in the Arabian Gulf countries.
